Court of Honor Trip Report for Q2 2024

We set out in a new direction at BW Wells campground.  Knot tying, axe yard, compass navigation, first aid – exploring a new path around Falls Lake – and Scouts Own service

On this service project organized by Mr. Pridgen, we planted trees and restored a natural area on a Cary greenway – and had lots of fun.

Starting out at Raven Rock State Park, the sister crews got experience together with youth navi-guessing and with using “bear bags” to safeguard the food stash against …. mice!

At Birkhead Wilderness and Grandfather Mtn the two crews trekking separately got very wet shoes and camped in the clouds.  But the food was really good!

After Roan Mtn and Grandfather Mtn (in May) the two crews are now ready for ten days and as much as 100 miles of backpacking

Camporee was at Camp Durant, the theme was adventure archaeology. We know they went because it was hard to find the stoves for the next trip. The bonfire was nice. Lots of noise during the day around camp.

We camped on a Civil War battlefield at Newport News Park.  We visited Jamestown re-c and the ruins of the actual Jamestown settlement on the James River.  In mid-April the weather was warm and there was no rain or snow.

We went to see the air show at Cherry Point featuring the Navy’s Blue Angels.  Camping at Croatan National Forest, we experimented with Dutch Oven cooking.

We camped overnight at Carolina Beach State Park.  On Saturday we tackled the at Oceanography MB at NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
